For All Ages and Interests

Through Indiana MoneyWise, the Office of the Indiana Secretary of State offers financial fitness and fraud prevention programming to audiences of all ages, statewide. Below you will find some of our available presentations, activities, and games. If you are interested in scheduling a speaker from our office, for virtual or in-person programming, go to MoneyWise Request and select Outreach Request.

This is by no means a complete list of our available programming, and we’re happy to build a program to meet your specific needs. When submitting an Outreach Request, simply tell us how we can help.

Youth Programming

Indiana MoneyWise provides interactive learning experiences, tools, and resources to educators, and our outreach staff can travel to your classroom to provide programming directly to the youth you serve. We can also join your students virtually via various web conferencing systems. Here’s a sampling of our youth programming.

Avengers Saving the Day
Connecting with kids using comic books! We use a special edition “Avengers” comic book—created by Marvel Comics in partnership with Visa’s Practical Money Skills—to teach children basic financial concepts. Children receive a free comic book (while supplies last).

  • Suggested Time: 45-60 minutes (more time is needed for larger groups)
  • Content: Currency, budgeting, saving, banking, and more!
  • Recommended Ages: Grades 2-7
  • Ideal Audience Size: Any size

Financial Fitness Reading Program
We encourage children to read books with financial messaging and complete a few activities. After children complete the program, they can notify our office to request a customized “Honorary Secretary of State” certificate. Suggested books and activities may be substituted depending on availability.

  • Suggested Time: Several weeks or months (depending on reading skills and how much time children have for reading)
  • Content: Budgeting, earning money, saving money
  • Recommended Ages: We have two versions, K-2nd and 3rd-6th
  • Ideal Audience Size: Any size

Financial Football
This game is available online for individual use, but it can be fun to play in teams in a group setting. The fast-paced, interactive game is competitive and helps children learn money management skills. Teams compete to answer finance questions to gain yardage and score touchdowns.

  • Suggested Time: 15-45 minutes
  • Content: General financial fitness
  • Recommended Ages: There are three versions, 11-14, 14-18, 18+
  • Ideal Audience Size: 20 or less (teams are recommended)

Fraud Fighting Force
Capitalizing on the popularity of escape rooms, we have created a simulation that uses many of the best parts of escape rooms, such as locks and secret codes, to create a unique experience that teaches financial fitness in an exciting format. Children are told they have a chance to join a superhero team known as the Fraud Fighting Force, but they must first prove their worth by passing a series of tests. In the process of playing, children learn how to spot the red flags of fraud so they can avoid becoming victims of a financial scam.

  • Suggested Time: 15-30 minutes (depending on ages and group size)
  • Content: Financial fraud prevention
  • Recommended Ages: 5th grade and older
  • Ideal Audience Size: Participants should be divided into teams if there is a large audience (4-5 per team)

Pet $ense Magical Creatures
This is a game that teaches children how to budget by using magical creatures from the world of Harry Potter. Children adopt imaginary pets and use an assigned “allowance” to make purchasing decisions for pet supplies. Unique budgeting scenarios are implemented, such as emergency expenses, and children will be faced with the dilemma of being able to afford a trip to Hogsmeade.

  • Suggested Time: 15-45 minutes (depending on group size, math skills, and the amount of discussion that takes place)
  • Content: Budgeting
  • Recommended Ages: Grade school
  • Ideal Audience Size: Any size

Adult Programming

Indiana MoneyWise provides programming for working and retired adults as well. We believe one of the most effective forms of investor protection is investor education. Our presentations are customized for each audience we serve. Personal finance presentations focus on budgeting, credit card smarts, debt management, and more. Fraud prevention presentations focus on red flags, common scams, self-defense strategies, and more. We also have activities and videos readily available as additional resources.

Indiana MoneyWise BINGO
BINGO with a fraud prevention twist. Instead of simply reading numbers and letters, we provide fraud prevention tips along the way.

  • Suggested Time: 30-60 minutes
  • Content: Financial fraud prevention
  • Recommended Ages: Teenagers and adults
  • Ideal Audience Size: Participants should be divided into teams if there is a large audience

How to Avoid Getting $CAMMED
This presentation developed by our office teaches teenagers and adults about various forms of financial fraud. We cover several popular scams, such as the IRS scam, grandparent scam, tech support scam, and Ponzi schemes. We discuss the methods of persuasion used by con artists. We also talk about checking credit reports and how to set-up a security freeze in order to defend yourself against identify theft.

  • Suggested Time: 45-60 minutes
  • Content: Financial fraud prevention
  • Recommended Ages: Teenagers and adults
  • Ideal Audience Size: Any size
